Kim opens U.S. Junior Amateur strong

Former Big Island resident Kimberly Kim shot a 1-under 71 to finish in a tie for ninth place after the opening round of the U.S. Junior Amateur Championships today in Bedminster, N.J.
Wailuku's Cassy Isagawa is tied for 42nd place after firing a 4-over 76. Honolulu's Alina Ching is 12 shots back of the leader after shooting a 79 and Cyd Okino checked in with an 85.
On the men's side,'Iolani's Lorens Chan is in a tie for 37th place after shooting a 1-over 73.
The top 64 boys and girls will advance after tomorrow's round to the match-play portion of the event which begins Wednesday.
