A man in his 40s and a woman in her 80s were taken to the hospital in critical condition after being assaulted in their home on Halekoa Drive early this morning, police said.

Police responded just before 3:30 a.m. to a 911 call from a neighbor concerned that dogs were loose and barking loudly, Capt. Letha DeCaires said.

“The house was processed for evidence and there are no suspects at this time,” DeCaires said.

Police said they are trying to determine what happened and whether it was a home invasion or burglary.
