Two crew members from the Taiwanese-flagged fishing vessel that was abandoned Monday because of a fire are being treated today for their burns at Straub Hospital.

The injured crew members from the vessel Hou Chun 11 arrived here last night on a Coast Guard HC-130 Hercules cargo plane.

The Coast Guard Barbers Point aircrew medically evacuated the crew members from Christmas Island where they were taken by the Coast Guard Cutter Alex Haley.

Hawaii and Alaska-based Coast Guard crews located the 28-member crew of the disabled fishing vessel early Tuesday morning. They were in two life rafts about 900 miles southwest of Honolulu. Coast Guard personnel provided medical care to the injured crew members as they transported all 28 to Christmas Island.

Two affiliate ships of the Hou Chun 11 are en route to the scene of the burned vessel and to Christmas Island to pickup the remaining crew members.

The cause of the fire remains unknown.
