A single-engine Piper Cherokee 140 aircraft crashed in Kalaeloa this morning, with three people on board, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.

All three people were taken to the Queen’s Medical Center. One of the victims, a woman in her 40s was originally listed in serious condition but has worsened to critical condition, said Bryan Cheplic, Emergency Medical Services department spokesman.

The other occupants was a man in his late 50s, who was stable, and a woman in her 20s, who was in serious condition, Cheplic said.

The aircraft took off from Kalaeloa Airport shortly before noon, lost power almost immediately and crashed just outside the airport, said FAA spokesman Ian Gregor. Gregor confirmed there were three occupants.

City fire crews responded to an area just off Coral Sea Road.

The aircraft’s tail number is N6182J, Gregor said. FAA records indicate the plane is owned by Offshore Flight School Inc., which is located at 100 Iolana Place, off Lagoon Drive.

The plane was manufactured in 1976, according to the FAA.
