EL PASO, Texas » Spending the week on the road means the Hawaii football team won't be attending classes on campus.

But Kealoha Pilares is getting ready for a series of tests leading up to Saturday's game against New Mexico State.

Pilares is looking to return from a sprained foot and ran with the team in the Warriors' conditioning session yesterday at the Sun Bowl.

“;The last couple days it's been feeling a lot better, so I'll give it a shot this week,”; Pilares said after the workout. “;I'm going to practice the next couple of days and test it out.”;

Pilares has a team-high four rushing touchdowns while playing both running back and slotback. He suffered the injury in Hawaii's loss at Boise State on Oct. 17 and didn't suit up for the last two games.

“;That's my main thing, I'm sick of being stuck on the side,”; Pilares said.

While Pilares looks to add a spark to the offense this week, UH coach Greg McMackin said the Warriors' quarterback rotation will be similar to last week's arrangement.

“;Greg Alexander is our quarterback,”; McMackin said, “;but Inoke (Funaki) will play.”;

Alexander passed for 186 yards and a touchdown and ran for a score in last week's loss at Utah State. Funaki played in two series and went 6-for-10 for 47 yards.
