POSTED: Thursday, May 14, 2009
A search team found the body of a woman matching the description of 64-year-old Gail Yoshida about four-to-five miles along Waimano Trail mauka of Pearl City this afternoon, said police Maj. Frank Fujii.
Yoshida has been missing since May 3, when she went walking with her dog, Maile, a Jack Russell terrier.
The dog walked out of the woods near the trail this afternoon, prompting the renewed search for Yoshida.
Details on the dog’s condition were not immediately available.
Fujii said clothing on the body found today matched that worn by Yoshida. He said she was found in a stream bed down a ravine near a picnic table along the trai.
Earlier today, family members and relatives gathered at a news conference at Sister Roberta Julie Derby Park near police headquarters to renew their appeal for information from the public.
