Mayor Mufi Hannemann warned Oahu residents this morning to get ready for heavy rain and strong winds from Felicia, which is expected to be a tropical depression as it moves south of the island tomorrow or Wednesday.

The storm could bring localized heavy rain of up to 5 inches and winds will be in the 30-35 mph range, the mayor’s office said.

“It’s a tremendous relief that Felicia will not strike our islands with the ferocity of past storms, but that doesn’t mean it won’t pose dangers, especially with expected flooding, high winds, and high surf,” he said.

“The City’s Department of Emergency Management is tracking the progress of the storm, and we’ve put first-responder agencies on alert to deal with any crisis. In addition, the city is prepared to open emergency shelters for those who may need temporary quarters.”
