Honolulu is the second-best “;Hair City”; in the U.S., according to TotalBeauty.com, an online source of beauty product reviews.

Our number of beauty salons per capita is one reason for Honolulu's high ranking, but the Web site's editors also factored in humidity levels, pollution, rainfall, wind speeds, water hardness and demographics in determining which cities have the “;best conditions for gorgeous, stylish hair,”; according to a statement.

“;While they may not be 'mullet-free zones,' they have the ideal climates for avoiding frizz, damage and color fading; plus they offer high access to great hairstyling talent,”; said Editor-in-Chief Beth Mayall-Traglia.

Santa Barbara, Calif., was No. 1. Behind Honolulu, San Diego was No. 3, followed by Anchorage, Alaska, and San Francisco in the top five. The rest of the 11 best are posted online.

In its Honolulu entry, TotalBeauty.com says, “;Beach-y hair like the Victoria's Secret models, anyone?”; and talks about our clean air, soft water and other attributes, inviting readers to “;Come here and say 'aloha' to gorgeous hair.”;

TotalBeauty.com's Worst Hair Cities are fifth-worst Phoenix, Las Vegas, Pittsburgh, Olympia, Wash., and, at the very bottom, Corpus Christi, Texas — where “;everything is bigger (and more humid).”; It has hard water and “;only a handful of hair salons.”; The rest of the bottom 13 are posted online.

Bye-bye Body Shop

The Body Shop at Kahala Mall will close after its business day tomorrow, as its lease at Kahala Mall ends at the end of April.

A company representative could not be reached, but Kahala Mall Marketing Manager Kelly Kauinana confirmed that a Red Mango frozen-yogurt shop would be building out the vacated space for a future opening.

Meanwhile, merchandise in the Body Shop is being sold at clearance prices. Its other Hawaii locations are at Ala Moana Center, Pearlridge Center and at Whalers Village in Lahaina, Maui.

Hello, Joe

Former Honolulu Star-Bulletin Sports Editor Joe Edwards will be lining up more endorsements for Tadd Fujikawa, as he has joined Attitudes Marketing LLC.

Edwards also had other positions with the paper over the years, but sports editor was his most visible.

Edwards is now an accounts representative and will work in business development for the small, Hawaii Kai-based sports-marketing firm.

He started working in sports reporting at age 16 while a high school student in North Dakota.

“;Athletes are going to appreciate having a guy as savvy as Joe”; helping them, said Ken Becker, a partner in the company.

Becker represented athletes and entertainers on the mainland before moving to Hawaii and establishing Attitudes Marketing last year.

Edwards is stoked about the new career path. “;Now I can say 'yes' to some things that I've really wanted to do.”;
