Hawaii’s banks are distributing the new Hawaii state quarter, the last coin to be issued under the U.S. Mint’s popular 50-state quarter program.
Hundreds of coin collectors waited in lines in downtown Honolulu today for a chance to buy $10 rolls of the quarters.
Mint Director Ed Moy says it’s a bittersweet day for the Mint because they’re celebrating the issue of the Hawaii quarter while marking the end of the decade-long 50-state quarter program.
Gov. Linda Lingle helped kick off today's celebrations which included a hula performance by a Kaneohe dance group.
