The National Park Service said today that it is closing all backcountry trails and campsites within Hawaii Volcanoes National Park because of Tropical Storm Felicia.
”;We are taking the necessary steps now to ensure that our visitors and employees stay safe,”; said Chief Ranger Talmadge Magno in a written news release.
Felicia is expected to be near or over the Hawaiian Islands by late Monday or early Tuesday and is expected to bring strong winds, heavy rain and high surf.
”;We will continue to monitor Tropical Storm Felicia and if weather conditions intensify, there could be more closures within the park,”; Magno added.
