Hurricane Felicia has formed in the Eastern Pacific and is one of two tropical cyclones headed west across the ocean, according to the National Hurricane Center.

At 11 a.m. today Hurricane Felicia was about 2,000 miles east of Hawaii and moving west at 14 mph. The rapidly intesifying storm has maximum sustained winds near 80 mph with higher gusts making it a Category 1 hurricane. The storm could intensify in the next day or so making it a major hurricane, according to the National Hurricane Center.

The storm is expected to turn toward the west-northwest over the next 48 hours taking it over cooler waters which could help to destabilize it.

At this point the storm would cross into the Central Pacific early Saturday. Forecasters say it is too early to tell how big the storm will be or where it will be as it nears the islands.

Behind Felicia is Tropical Storm Enrique, which at 11 a.m. was 780 miles southwest of the southern tip of Baja, California.

It is moving west-northwest at 16 mph and has sustained winds of 60 mph with stronger gusts.

Some strengthening is expected in the 24 hours, the National Hurricane Center said.
These are the fifth and sixth storms in the Eastern Pacific this hurricane season.
