The Honolulu Medical Examiner's Office today identified the man who died in a fiery car crash above Yokohama Bay this past weekend as Fumihiko Okuda, 69, of Waikoloa, Hawaii.

;Fumihiko OkudaOkuda, who was the subject of a missing persons report, died of smoke inhalation and thermal injuries due to a car fire, the Medical Examiner's Office said.

The manner of his death was deferred pending further investigation.

A Honolulu Crimestoppers report on Tuesday said Okuda was last seen Feb. 3 when he left the Big Island for Oahu, but did not check into his hotel room. He had not been seen or heard from since.

About 7:30 p.m. Saturday, a passerby found Okuda's rental car engulfed in flames below an oceanside cliff along Farrington Highway.

Authorities had said Okuda's body was burned so badly the gender could not be determined.
