The U.S. Coast Guard rescued six fishermen from a disabled fishing vessel off Kaneohe at 6 a.m. today.

The wife of one of the fishermen called the Coast Guard at 10:46 last night to report the group was overdue from a day fishing trip on Oahu’s windward side. The Coast Guard made contact with the fishermen, who were about six miles north off Mokapu Point.

The group reported they had no personal flotation devices, flares or working radio, and their cell phone was dying.

The Coast Guard and the Honolulu Fire Department each dispatched a helicopter. The vessel was spotted at 12:29 a.m. The Coast Guard’s 87-foot patrol boat Ahi reached the area at 5:49 a.m. to tow the boat back to shore.

The boat was returned to the Heeia Kea Small Boat Harbor at 9:11 a.m. There were no injuries.
