The Coast Guard is trying to find out whether anyone is in trouble following a 1 a.m. mayday call today off Maui.

A distressed mariner only said: “;Mayday, we're going down,”; a Coast Guard news release said.

The one-time mayday call gave no position or vessel description and was picked up by Coast Guard's VHF radio tower on Haleakala on Maui, the Coast Guard said.

Anyone with information on the call is asked to call the Coast Guard office in Honolulu at 842-2600.
