The Bishop Museum is offering educational activities on Fridays when schools are closed due to budget cuts.
The daylong program is meant to benefit children who would miss out on instructional time.
It includes exhibits about dinosaurs, Hawaiian history, volcanos, Polynesian navigation and the Earth's climate.
Programs will be led by the Bishop Museum's education staff and volunteers.
Museum President Timothy Johns says the programs offer parents an alternative to the school day in a safe learning environment.
Bishop Museum Furlough Fridays will be held on the same 17 days when school is out, starting Oct. 23. Prices start at $25 per day.
