A 75-foot sailboat with six people on board ran aground on the beach fronting the Halekulani Hotel in Waikiki this morning.
The Coast Guard said that a surfer reported that boat was in trouble at 4:45 this morning about 200 yards from shore and the six people decided to swim to the beach.
The Coast Guard got the call at 6:15 a.m. and said the six people went to hotel security seeking help.
The state land board, which has jurisdiction over the beach and the ocean fronting the Waikiki hotel, was working with the owner of the boat on salvage operations.
The Coast Guard said there was no immediate danger of any type of pollution caused by the grounding.
