CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. » San Diego sophomore Alex Ching shot a 6-under 66 yesterday to take the individual lead in the NCAA Division I men's golf championship, while Florida State took a commanding advantage in the team competition.

Ching, a former Punahou standout, had eight birdies and a double bogey to match the single-round record at The Honors Course. He had a 9-under 135 two-round total for a two-stroke lead over Augusta State's Henrik Norlander (69) and Oklahoma State's Peter Uihlein (68).

Ching was tied for the lead going into the final round last year, but settled for 13th.
