Hawaii college teams knock it out of the baseball and softball parks
What a weekend for Hawaii college athletics—and let's hope the hits just keep on coming.
First, the done deal: Hawaii Pacific University's women are now the NCAA Division II national softball champions, after an exciting 4-3 win yesterday over Valdosta (Ga.) State in St. Joseph, Mo. Way to go, Sea Warriors.
Coming up: Both the University of Hawaii women's softball and men's baseball teams are in the hunt for national titles, too.
The 16th-seeded UH Wahine eliminated top-seeded Alabama in a thrilling finish to advance to the Women's College World Series. They battle Missouri in a first-round game Thursday morning. The UH men, meanwhile, advanced to an NCAA regional for the first time since 2006 after winning their first WAC tourney title in 18 years, against Fresno State. They're up against San Diego Friday in the Arizona State regional of the NCAA tournament.
Hats off to all the student athletes, their coaches and the supportive family and friends.
