UH's Kaufman back in NCAAs
Hawaii's Amber Kaufman qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in the high jump by tying for first at the NCAA West Preliminary Round yesterday in Austin, Texas.
Kaufman was among six competitors to clear 5 feet, 11 1/4 inches.
The top 12 finishers automatically qualified for the national championships June 9-12 in Eugene, Ore.
Kaufman won a bronze medal at last year's nationals and placed second at the indoor championships in March.
UH's Sarah Saddleton tied for 14th at 5-8 1/2 and Samantha Balentine tied for 28th at 5-6 1/2 .
Sony Open raises $1 million
This year's Sony Open in Hawaii raised more than $1 million, benefiting a record 150 charities.
Friends of Hawaii Charities distributed $1,006,000 in grants to the local non-profit organizations at an event at the Bishop Museum last week.
The Sony Open's drive to its charity goal was fueled by the Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Foundation, which provided matching funds for each dollar raised at the event, and contributions from The Friends Club membership donations.
The 2011 Sony Open is scheduled for Jan. 10-16 at Waialae Country Club.
UH football camps coming up
The Hawaii football program's series of summer camps begins with the skills camp June 11-13.
The camp is geared for receivers, defensive backs, quarterbacks, running backs and tight ends, and is open to players ages 13-17.
Online registration is $90. Walk-up registration is $100.
The program will also host a big man camp for linemen June 18-20 and a kid's camp (ages 5-12) July 9-11.

'Bows to host hoops camp
The first Hawaii men's basketball summer camp under head coach Gib Arnold will be held June 21 to 24 for boys and girls ages 6 to 17.
There will be individual and team competitions and evaluations and instructions by Arnold and current and former UH players.
The camp costs $250 per person and runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each of the four days at UH lower campus.
