Shea, Kaapana help launch new venue

California-based folk rocker Rick Shea and local slack key guitar master Ledward Kaapana are the headliners for the first public event at Bambu 2.0's new concert venue.

Appropriately called theVenue, the new space was formerly used as a recording studio by the owners of the now defunct rRed Elephant Cafe. According to new owner Dave Stewart, renovations have turned the space into a more traditional concert venue.

Joining Shea on stage at theVenue will be Sean Thibadeaux, a Honolulu-based music producer and guitarist.

'Moonlight Yacht Party' offers stylish ride

Firewater Events is back with another “;Moonlight Yacht Party”; tomorrow aboard the Alii Kai Catamaran to kick off summer 2010.

Guests are asked to wear “;stylish attire”; to this three-level party that features live performances by Black Square and GRLFRNDS along with DJs Eskae and Mr. Nick. Check-in begins at 8:30 p.m. tomorrow, with boarding from 9 p.m. and the actual cruise getting under way around 10:30 p.m.

No smoking or drug use is allowed; promoters ask that guests do not bring large bags or liquids of any kind. Along with parking at Aloha Tower Marketplace, additional parking will be available at Topa Tower ($5), Harbor Square ($5) and Bishop Square ($4). The catamaran will return to dock between 1:15 and 1:30 a.m.
