Two more suspects arrested in connection with Palolo home invasion

Police arrested two additional suspects in a brazen Palolo home invasion Sunday.

Police arrested a 20-year-old Papakolea man at 4:30 p.m. today on suspicion of burglary and robbery.

At 9 p.m., officers arrested a 24-year-old Tantalus man also suspected of burglary and robbery.

Prosecutors have charged two men in connection with the home invasion robbery.

Jordan K. Artuyo, 18, of no local address and Justin Lono, 28, of Tantalus Drive were charged Tuesday with multiple counts of first-degree robbery, first-degree burglary and kidnapping. Bail for each was set at $350,000.

The men allegedly broke into a home at 2001 10th Ave. at about 3:30 a.m. Sunday and robbed and tied up six people who were asleep at the time.

 

Bank robbery suspect sought

;  Police are looking for a man between 30 and 40 years old who robbed the American Savings Bank in Kalihi yesterday.

A man armed with a handgun entered the bank at 1851 N. King St. about 9:50 a.m., approached a teller and demanded money, police said. He then fled Ewa-bound on foot on North King Street.

He is described as between 5 feet 4 inches and 5 feet 5 inches tall, 180 to 200 pounds, with gray, curly hair, possibly a wig, and a mustache. He was wearing a dark T-shirt, blue denim long pants and a black baseball cap.

H-1 crash victim was Waianae man

The Honolulu medical examiner identified a 33-year-old man who died in a single-car crash on the H-1 freeway near Kualakai Parkway as David Lani Faga Roberts of Waianae.

Traffic investigators said Roberts was speeding in a pickup truck with a 33-year-old female passenger at 6:04 p.m. Tuesday.

The truck veered off the road, struck a grass embankment and overturned onto the right shoulder near Kualakai Parkway, formerly called North-South Road, police said.

Roberts was ejected from the truck upon impact. The woman, who is pregnant, was extricated from the vehicle before it caught fire.

He was taken to Hawaii Medical Center West in critical condition and pronounced dead at 6:44 p.m. An autopsy will be performed today to determine the cause of death. The woman, also from Waianae, was taken to the Queen's Medical Center in serious condition.

Roberts and the passenger were not wearing seat belts at the time of the crash.

Roberts' death is the 30th traffic-related fatality on Oahu compared with 29 at the same time last year.

 

Biker killed in collision is identified

A 62-year-old motorcyclist who died in a crash over the weekend in North Kona was identified as John M. Shields of Kealakekua.

At 6:45 p.m. Sunday, a 31-year-old Kailua-Kona man driving a Toyota pickup truck was traveling northbound on Route 190 when he started to make a left turn onto Mahilani Drive. Police said Shields began to overtake the pickup truck in a no-passing zone when they collided.

Shields was not wearing a helmet. He was taken to Kona Community Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 7:30 p.m.

Police arrested the pickup truck driver on suspicion of negligent homicide, operating a vehicle under the influence of an intoxicant and other offenses.

The truck driver and his passenger abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot after the crash, police said. They were arrested at a home in the Kona Palisades subdivision.

The passenger, a 26-year-old Kailua-Kona man, was arrested on suspicion of involvement in a serious accident and consuming and/or possessing intoxicating liquor while a passenger in a motor vehicle.

Both were released pending further investigation.

 

Argument over towing leads to arrest

Honolulu police arrested a Waipahu tow storage yard operator for allegedly threatening to blow up a woman's car.

Police said a 45-year-old woman got into an argument with the 52-year-old man at the man's storage yard on Awanei Street in Waipahu after her car was towed.

The man allegedly threatened to blow up her car and she called police at 11:25 a.m. Tuesday.

Police arrested the suspect for terroristic threatening. He was released pending further investigation.

Woman has 2 DUI arrests within hours

LAHAINA » A Maui motorist has been charged with DUI in two separate cases that occurred on the same day.

Police say Sandra K. Schwartz of Pukalani was charged with drunken driving after being stopped for speeding Sunday morning on Honoapiilani Highway.

She was released less than four hours later after posting $1,000 bail.

Less than two hours after that, the 62-year-old Schwartz was involved in a traffic accident on the highway.

Police say she failed sobriety tests and was charged with driving under the influence of an intoxicant. She again posted $1,000 bail and was released.
