Honolulu police arrested a 23-year-old man yesterday for allegedly robbing a Kalihi store at knifepoint Monday night.
Police said a man entered the store at about 11:30 p.m. and took a can of soda to the register. When the clerk opened the cash register, the suspect pulled out a knife and took an undisclosed amount of money. The suspect fled on foot.
At 1:35 a.m. yesterday a patrol officer saw a male driver who matched the suspect's description stopped at a red light.
The officer tried to stop the vehicle, but the driver allegedly refused to stop and sped off, police said. The driver then stopped at a dead-end street, police said.
Police said the man was identified as a suspect in the robbery. The man was arrested on suspicion of first-degree robbery, refusing an order to stop motor vehicle, reckless driving and two traffic warrants.
