The fetus from a miscarriage by a 19-year-old woman in a Kapolei park restroom was stillborn, Acting Honolulu Medical Examiner Dr. William Goodhue said yesterday.
Goodhue said the fetus was female and about 28 to 29 weeks old. Normal gestation is 40 weeks.
The Medical Examiner's office was continuing to conduct tests to determine the cause of death, including testing for viruses and drugs.
The mother, a Kapolei resident, said she was unaware that she was pregnant until she miscarried Monday night in Kapolei Regional Park, police said.
Physicians have said several teenagers a year in Hawaii who give birth insist they were unaware of their pregnancy.
Physicians said free pregnancy testing services are available through the state.
