Officer is attacked by car
Police are looking for a 59-year-old woman who allegedly tried to run over a police officer at a Nuuanu church Sunday.
The case has been classified as first-degree attempted murder, second-degree reckless endangering and refusal to stop.
Two plainclothes officers saw a suspicious vehicle at a Nuuanu church parking lot, where the woman appeared to be conducting a drug transaction with a known street character, police said.
One of the officers approached the vehicle from the driver's side while displaying her badge and identifying herself as a police officer.
The woman reversed the vehicle as the officer walked toward the parking lot entrance. The woman then allegedly caused the vehicle to lunge toward the entrance, twice allegedly lunging forward toward the 40-year-old officer.
Police said the second time the car lunged forward, it came within three feet of the officer. The officer then drew her weapon, police said.
The woman fled in the vehicle through another exit.
The two officers remembered the license plate number, police said.
Police had not located the suspect as of yesterday afternoon.
