An 18-year-old Manoa man and a 17-year-old boy have been charged with the murder of a 41-year-old taxi driver in Waipahu.
Michael Robles of 2146 Damon St. is being held on $250,000 bail. He will appear in court Monday to answer to a second-degree murder charge. Robles was arrested at the main police station on South Beretania Street at 11:15 p.m. Friday.
The 17-year-old was also arrested Friday. A petition has been filed to bring him before a Family Court judge on Monday, police said.
Charlys Ty Tang turned 41 May 1, the day he was beaten unconscious in the Times Super Market parking lot in Waipahu shortly before 2 a.m. The beating led to his death, police said.
Police said Tang had picked up two males near Kuhio and Seaside avenues in Waikiki at about 1:15 a.m. A witness reported seeing a cab driver chasing some people he had dropped off, apparently to collect the fare, police said.
Tang was later found in the parking lot, outside his vehicle, with head and facial injuries. He was taken in critical condition to the Queen's Medical Center, where he died.
Born in Cambodia, Tang is survived by his wife, Xiaoling Tang, son Jarvis and daughter Aprille.
A service has been scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Mililani Downtown Mortuary. Burial will follow at noon at Valley of the Temples Memorial Park.
