Waianae Intermediate School vice principal Bernadine “;Bernie”; Taaca has been selected as Hawaii's 2010 State Assistant Principal of the Year. She is one of 52 vice principals nationwide honored by the National Association of Secondary School Principals.

Betty Lou Larson, Housing Programs Director for Catholic Charities Hawaii, was named the 2010 Social Worker of the Year—Social Justice/ Advocacy by the Hawaii Chapter of the National Association of Social Workers.
