Kellan Anderson new golf pro at Hoakalei
Kellan Anderson was named golf professional at Hoakalei Country Club, the course announced yesterday.
Anderson had previous stints at the Ala Wai Driving Range, Mililani Golf Academy, and Turtle Bay Golf Club. The Hawaii-Hilo graduate has also been a member of the Aloha Section PGA since 2008 and oversees the nonprofit First Tee of Hawaii program.
UH golf team finishes ninth in WAC tourney
The University of Hawaii men's golf team carded a 918, finishing in ninth place yesterday at the Western Athletic Conference Championships in Henderson, Nev.
The Warriors, led by sophomore T.J. Kua, scored 302, 298 and 318 in the three rounds of the tournament. Kua, a second-team All-WAC performer, finished at 218.
Host New Mexico State won the title at 13-under 851.
UH water polo team receives MPSF honors
Four players on the University of Hawaii women's water polo team received all-conference honors by the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation yesterday.
Sophomore attacker Monika Eggens was recognized with All-MPSF first-team honors, while juniors Carmen Eggens and Leonie Van Der Molen were named to the second team. Amarens Genee was named to the all-freshman team.

HPU baseball No. 4 in West
After winning the PacWest Championship and shattering the program's season win record by five games, the Hawaii Pacific baseball team received a No. 4 ranking in the NCAA West region poll yesterday.
Only the top four teams in the region will qualify for the West region tournament and the selected teams will be announced Sunday on the NCAA website at 4 p.m. HST.
The Sea Warriors finished the regular season with a 37-10 record and have won 12 of their last 13 games. The No. 4 West ranking was their highest of the season.
Vulcan golfers 11th at regional
The Hawaii-Hilo men's golf team fared well on the final day of competition in the NCAA Division II Central/West regional yesterday, with a 297 to tie for 11th place.
The Vulcans tied with St. Cloud State, as both teams finished at 908 on The Classic Club/Troon Golf Course in Palm Desert, Calif. Sonoma State placed first in the regional, scoring 1-under 863.
Ryan Felix led Hawaii-Hilo at 7-over 223 and tied for 27th place.
ITA honors HPU athletes, coach
The Intercollegiate Tennis Association recognized Hawaii Pacific junior Sandra Wikstrom yesterday as the 2010 recipient of the Arthur Ashe Award, given to collegiate tennis players who exhibit outstanding sportsmanship, leadership, and scholastic achievement. Teammate Zora Vlckova was also named the Women's Player to Watch.
HPU head coach Lauren Conching was honored as Division II West Women's Tennis Assistant Coach of the Year as she helped lead the Lady Sea Warriors to the NCAA West Region Championships, which will be held today at Central Oahu Regional Park. HPU will face UC San Diego at 1:30 p.m.
The HPU men's tennis team, led by Men's Senior Player of the Year Nikola Petrov, will take on Sonoma State at 10 a.m.
