Screeching tires led to shooting in Kailua

A dispute over a driver “;burning rubber”; late at night on a residential street led to a shooting that critically wounded a 23-year-old man last weekend, police said.
Honolulu police charged Solomon Sidney Silva on Monday with two counts of attempted murder.
Silva, 45, of Waimanalo, faced the charges in state court for the first time yesterday.
Police said the screeching-tires incident happened just before midnight Friday on Wailepo Place in Kailua.
A 29-year-old man from one of the residences complained about the noise to the driver of the vehicle, a 22-year-old man, and the two got into a fight. The driver left, returned and again fought with the man, police said.
The next morning, police said, Silva suggested the people involved in the dispute meet and shake hands. It is not clear how Silva became involved.
The driver and an acquaintance, 23, went to Wailepo Place before noon Saturday. But instead of settling their differences, the driver and the 29-year-old man got into an argument and fought again.
Police said Silva and the driver's acquaintance also argued. Silva then shot the acquaintance several times and tried to shoot the driver but missed.
The shooting victim went to Castle Medical Center in critical condition. His condition later improved to serious.
Silva remained at Wailepo Place until police arrived and arrested him. He told police he was “;barraged”; by the same guys from the night before.
One of the witnesses to the shooting is the mother of a Honolulu police officer who was off duty at the time. The mother told her daughter what happened and pointed out Silva to arresting officers, police said.
