Suspect arrested in Ewa Beach attack

Police arrested a 21-year-old man Saturday who allegedly used a baseball bat to beat a man who had asked him to keep the noise down because his children were sleeping.

The father, 34, walked to the house in Ewa Beach where there was a loud party at about 11:20 p.m. Jan. 24 and asked them to keep the noise down because his children were asleep, police said.

The suspect grew angry and attacked the man with a bat, causing serious injuries, before a 19-year-old man joined in with a metal pipe, police said.

A 31-year-old man who tried to stop the attack was also seriously beaten with the bat and pipe, police said.

Officers arrested the suspect on suspicion of second-degree assault at about 8:45 a.m. Saturday after he was spotted near the victim's home. The other suspect is still on the run.

Man is charged in attempted murder

A 34-year-old man was charged yesterday with the attempted murder of his former neighbor in Papakolea.

Kelii Akiona, who has no local address, is being held on $50,000 bail on a charge of second-degree attempted murder.

Police said a man broke into a 56-year-old Papakolea man's home at about 1:45 a.m. Saturday and assaulted him as he slept in his bedroom.

The older man sustained puncture wounds to his head and body and was taken to the hospital in serious condition, police said.

Witnesses held Akiona at 511 Kauhane St. until police arrived.
