UH men's tennis wins WAC title
Make it three straight Western Athletic Conference tournament titles for the Hawaii men's tennis team.
The top-seeded Rainbow Warriors took the championship over host Fresno State, 4-3, behind Jeremy Tweedt's win at the No. 4 court over Tejesvi Veerepalli.
UH (12-7, 4-1 WAC) gets an automatic berth to the NCAA tournament.
UH had to rally from a 3-1 team deficit after Fresno (18-9, 4-1) took the first three singles matches of the day.
Tweedt, a Tennessee transfer, fell behind 4-1 in the third set, but took five straight games to win it all for UH.
UH water polo team in fifth
The Hawaii water polo team finished the MPSF tournament in fifth place with a win over San Diego State on the UCLA campus yesterday.
Carmen Eggens scored three goals for the Rainbow Wahine and Monika Eggens added two in their 7-6 win over the Aztecs. Serena Bredin had 10 saves for Hawaii.
The Rainbow Wahine finished the tournament with two wins to end the season 18-8. They now hope to be given one of three at-large berths into the NCAA tournament today.
Hawaii sailors fail to qualify
The Hawaii coed sailing team finished 13th in the ICSA Coed National Championshio Eastern Semifinal at Charleston, S.C, yesterday.
The loss prevented the team from qualifying for the national finals.
William Petersen skippered one Hawaii team and Zachary Hester guided the other.
Boston College won the regatta with 114 points. Hawaii scored 313.
The team travels to Wisconsin for the team race national championship beginning May 29.
Year's best gather at QB Club
Hawaii track and field star Annett Wichmann and 'Iolani's Jarrett Arakawa will be the featured speakers at today's 11:30 meeting of the Honolulu Quarterback Club at the Maple Garden Restaurant.
Wichmann is the club's female sportsperson of the year and Arakawa is the prep sportsperson of the year.
