Vegetables star in Rabbit Garden
The Alika Rabbit Garden will celebrate its grand opening from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday in Pearl City.
The newest addition to the University of Hawaii's Urban Garden Center will feature common and unusual vegetables and offer an educational adventure tour based on Beatrix Potter's “;Tale of Peter Rabbit.”;
Instead of Peter Rabbit, however, Alika Rabbit will tell of his adventures in Uncle Kimo's garden.
Fun-filled activities planned for the celebration include garden tours, a keiki craft tent, a plant sale, a live rabbit display and seed packet giveaways for children.
The Urban Garden Center, which opened to the public in June 1994, is a community outreach site for the University of Hawaii at Manoa's College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resources to offer hands-on educational programs.
It is located makai of Home Depot at 955 Kamehameha Highway. Admission is free. For more information, call 453-6050.
