Wahine tennis advances in WAC
Sophomore Aglae Van den Bergh earned a clutch victory at the No. 4 court to help the Hawaii women's tennis team edge Idaho 4-3 in the first round of the Western Athletic Conference tournament yesterday at Fresno, Calif.
UH (12-13) posted singles wins on four of six courts to rally for the victory, capped off by Van den Bergh's 6-7, 7-6, 6-1 match over Alexandra Ulesanu.
The Wahine play top-seeded Boise State today at 8 a.m. Hawaii time.
UH drops MPSF water polo match
The Hawaii women's water polo team lost 8-6 to host UCLA in the first round of play in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation tournament yesterday.
Monika Eggens led the Rainbow Wahine with three goals.
Fourth-seeded UH (16-8) faces No. 8 seed Arizona State today in the second of three matches in the tourney.
HHSAA tennis seeds released
Kalani's Jared Spiker and Kealakehe's Sayo Tsukamoto are the respective top singles seeds in the Carlsmith Ball/HHSAA boys and girls state tennis championships starting Wednesday at Holua Tennis Center and Outrigger Keauhou Resort.
Spiker is the defending boys singles champion.
Punahou's Paul Okuda and Travis Yoshimoto are the top-seeded boys doubles team, while the Buffanblu's Jennifer Laws and Ashley Nakaoka are the No. 1-ranked girls tandem.
Play concludes on Friday.
Sea Warriors top Urban Knights
The Hawaii Pacific baseball team defeated Academy of Art 7-1 yesterday at Hans L'Orange Park, improving to 35-10 overall and 25-4 in PacWest play.
Sean Winston posted his first career home run and four RBIs to lead the Sea Warriors. Michael Greene (6-2) gave up one run over six innings to collect the win.
