Cayetano's memoir earns top book award

“;Ben: A Memoir, from Street Kid to Governor,”; by former Gov. Ben Cayetano, won Book of the Year, the Samuel M. Kamakau Award, at the 2010 Ka Palapala Po'okela book awards yesterday at Bishop Museum.
Cayetano's book, which earned the honor for Watermark Publishing, also won the Award for Excellence in Nonfiction Books.
The John Dominis Holt Award, which recognizes a lifetime contribution to Hawaii book publishing, was given to Maile Meyer, owner of Native Books/Na Mea Hawai'i, an independent bookseller and distributor in the local community for the past 20 years.
The winners were among 110 nominees; 73 book projects were entered in 13 categories. The awards, now in their 17th year, are presented by the Hawaii Book Publishers Association.
