The driver of a sport utility vehicle who ran a red light in Kapolei last July, crashing into another car and killing the driver, was drunk and speeding, said Vickie Kapp, deputy prosecutor.

An Oahu grand jury returned an indictment yesterday charging Kristin Maile Mancao with manslaughter in the July 25 death of 52-year-old Norbert Dean Galban, who was also known as Dean Norbert Gomes.

Kapp said Mancao, 27, of Makakilo, was driving her SUV 74 mph in a 30 mph zone, and her blood-alcohol content was 0.17 three hours after the collision.

It is illegal for a person with a blood-alcohol content of 0.08 or higher to operate a vehicle.

Police said Mancao was traveling mauka on Fort Barrette Road when she ran the red light at the Kapolei Parkway intersection. Her SUV hit Galban's sports car broadside as it was turning left onto Fort Barrette Road from Kapolei Parkway.

Galban died at the scene.

Mancao and her passenger, a 28-year-old man, escaped injury.
