Man charged in attempt to snatch girl
Prosecutors charged a 22-year-old Waipahu man who allegedly tried to grab a 5-year-old girl from the Waipahu District Park at about noon Sunday.
Anthony J. Davis was charged Monday with kidnapping. His bail was set at $50,000.
Authorities said the girl's brothers, ages 10 and 12, and 15-year-old sister helped in getting the girl away from the man.
Bystanders, including a district park lifeguard, held the man at the park, located at Paiwa Street, until police arrived and arrested him.
Boy reports being sexually assaulted
Police are investigating a case of first-degree sexual assault of an 11-year-old boy in Salt Lake on Sunday.
Police said the boy reported being sexually assaulted by a man between 6 and 11 a.m. Sunday.
No one has been arrested in the case.
Police seek help in Big Isle arson case
Big Island police are asking for information from the public about an arson case in the Hawaiian Paradise Park subdivision of Puna on Monday.
Police said the fire was reported at 6:29 p.m. Monday. The house at 15-1587 30th Ave. was fully engulfed in flames when patrol officers arrived. Detectives are continuing their investigation into the fire, which appears to have been intentionally set. One man was injured in the blaze. The fire caused an estimated $35,000 worth of damage, the Fire Department said.

Waikoloa man charged in robbery
Big Island police charged a 21-year-old Waikoloa man yesterday who allegedly robbed a man in Waimea on Thursday.
Detectives charged Michael Bonelli yesterday with second-degree robbery, first-degree burglary and second-degree theft.
Police said Bonelli allegedly robbed a 38-year-old Waimea man, who reported he found a man at his house Thursday morning after he had returned from a walk. The intruder allegedly threatened to harm him and allegedly removed two medical marijuana plants from his house.
Bonelli was also charged with unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle and second-degree criminal property damage in an unrelated case, police said.
His bail was set at $16,000.
Kauai thieves leave trail of quarters
Kauai police are looking for unknown suspects who broke into an Eleele laundromat sometime between Monday night and yesterday morning and stole a change machine.
Police said the thieves left a trail of quarters after taking the machine off the wall at a self-serve laundry at Eleele Shopping Center.
Kauai police reported a rash of vending machine thefts and attempted thefts and are urging business owners to take precautions to ensure the security of coin-operated or cash-dispensing machines.
