HPU sweeps week's awards

Hawaii Pacific infielder Kale Sumner and pitcher Michael Greene were named the Pacific West Conference's baseball player and pitcher of the week yesterday.

Sumner, a freshman, went 12-for-21 with a home run and eight runs scored in the Sea Warriors' sweep of Hawaii-Hilo. The effort helped HPU to its first PacWest title.

Greene limited the Vulcans to one run over seven innings to earn best hurler honors.

Sugihara gains PacWest award

Hawaii Pacific infielder Casey Sugihara was named the PacWest's softball player of the week for helping her team to the PacWest championship.

Sugihara, of Mililani, hit .769 with seven runs scored in a four-game sweep of Chaminade.
