Train your dog to travel in a crate
POSTED: Tuesday, April 27, 2010
QUESTION: I'm moving to the mainland. How can I get my dog comfortable in a crate?
ANSWER: Best to start now as crate-training your dog will take time. This is worth the effort, however, since it's a safe way of traveling. Start by crating him in a car and confining him comfortably in places where he might not be welcome to run freely. Ensure it's large enough for him to stand up in and turn around comfortably. Start by feeding him in the crate and leaving his blanket and a toy there. Gradually increase the duration of time, starting with just a few minutes. Leave the crate near your bed and train him to sleep there at night.
