Slaats' shutout earns WAC honor
Hawaii junior Josh Slaats was named Western Athletic Conference pitcher of the week yesterday, his fourth such honor this season.
Slaats threw a seven-inning shutout against Louisiana Tech on Thursday in a 10-0 win. He allowed five hits and struck out four in lowering his ERA to 1.71.
He has pitched two shutouts this season.
Louisiana Tech scored 36 runs in the next three games of the series.
WAC pitching award to Ricketts
Hawaii sophomore Stephanie Ricketts was named WAC pitcher of the week yesterday for throwing a five-inning perfect game at Nevada last week.
It was Ricketts' fourth shutout this year and third career no-hitter. She struck out two of Nevada's 15 batters.
Tina Ferguson of Utah State, who batted .643 with three homers and 12 RBIs, took the hitter of the week award.
