Opportunity is the operative word for the former Hawaii football players looking to break into the NFL.

The three-day draft concluded yesterday with no UH players selected for the first time since 2006, but a few agreed to free-agent deals shortly after the last pick was announced.

Center John Estes agreed to terms on a deal with the Jacksonville Jaguars. Linebacker Brashton Satele is headed to the Oakland Raiders and guard Ray Hisatake joins the Carolina Panthers.

Jacksonville didn't draft an offensive lineman and will add Estes, a three-time All-Western Athletic Conference selection, to the competition at center.

Satele will have a shot at an NFL job despite not playing in a game since the end of the 2008 season. He missed all of 2009 following shoulder surgery, and his appeal for a sixth year of eligibility was denied.

“;Just the other week I found out I'm not playing for the Warriors and now I'm finding out I'm going to the Raiders,”; Satele said.

“;I sat out long enough, and the time I sat out showed me how much I love the game and how much I missed it and I appreciate it more now.”;

Satele will join his cousin and former UH standout offensive lineman Samson Satele with the Raiders.

Hisatake said he'd been in contact with the Panthers since the end of UH's season and leaves for minicamp on Thursday. A defensive lineman in junior college, Hisatake started all 13 games at left guard for the Warriors last fall.

“;I'm real excited they're going to give me a chance to show what I can do,”; Hisatake said. “;Especially with the road I took, didn't play in high school, only played O-line for two years.”;

Hisatake said he's been training with Chad Ikei in Arizona and has dropped 42 pounds since the end of the season to prepare for his shot.

Former tackle Aaron Kia is hoping to hear from an NFL team, possibly by tomorrow.
