SUV driver dies in Hawaii Kai crash
A fatal sport utility vehicle crash in Hawaii Kai yesterday might be linked to a medical condition with the driver, police said.
The 54-year-old Hawaii Kai man was driving a Ford Explorer south on Opihikao Place shortly before 5 p.m. when he drove off the right side of the road and hit an electrical transformer box and carport pole. He was taken to Straub Clinic & Hospital in critical condition and died at 6:20 p.m., police said.
Missing hiker died of head injuries
A missing hiker whose body was found Wednesday in Wailua Valley died of massive head injuries, a Kauai County news release said yesterday.
Utah resident Ryan Soper, 26, had been reported missing last week during a tour near Secret Falls.
Police search for Liliha bank robber
Honolulu police were looking for a man who robbed the Liliha branch of First Hawaiian Bank at about 10:50 a.m. yesterday.
The man, wearing what appeared to be a green hooded sweat shirt and gray pants, demanded money from a teller and fled on foot, police said. No weapon was seen. He was about 6 feet tall and weighed 150 to 160 pounds.
2 arrested in armed robbery attempt
A Waipahu man and woman were arrested Thursday night after an attempted armed robbery in Pearl City.
Police said a man approached a 31-year-old man and demanded money with a handgun at about 10 p.m. and then hit the man with the butt of the gun when the victim said he did not have any money.
