Hip-hop trio here to stay

'My Brothers Keeper'
Blood Brothers
(Runn the Streetz)
This eight-song calling card should make the trio—S1da, Young Gunna and HellRazor—finalists for Best R&B/Hip-hop Album at the 2011 Na Hoku Hanohano Awards. In the meantime they are among the local acts opening for Xzibit and Samoan IROK tonight at Pipeline Cafe.
The CD starts off hardcore, with the trio spitting the all-purpose 12-letter inner-city expletive with a frequency reminiscent of Sam Kinison's use of the F-word. They aim their most scathing comments at absentee fathers and address that important—albeit politically incorrect—subject in a straight-from-the-streets style.
“;Go Getta”; pays homage to an ideal woman who is an equal partner in all aspects of a solid relationship, and “;Love Us or Hate Us”; serves notice to the world that hardcore hip-hop is happening in Hawaii. It's been more than a decade since the Hi-Town DJs hit the Billboard Hot 100 with “;Ding-A-Ling,”; and much of the world still doesn't know.
