Man allegedly rams car and shoots air gun

A 51-year-old Salt Lake man was charged yesterday after he allegedly rammed another car and fired an air gun at a man in Waianae.

Ambrosio Santos of Ala Lilikoi Street was charged with second-degree terroristic threatening and illegal use of an air gun. He was being held on $3,000 bail.

Police said a 31-year-old man and a 29-year-old woman were sitting in their car at about 11 a.m. Wednesday when Santos reversed into them.

The younger man got out and told Santos to stop, but he kept reversing, trying to push the vehicle forward, police said.

Then Santos fired an air gun at the younger man, police said. He was arrested on Apana Road.

Masked man sought in Salt Lake bank heist

Police are asking for the public's help in finding a masked man who robbed the American Savings Bank in Salt Lake last month.

The man, who appeared to be in his 20s or 30s, brandished a handgun and demanded money from a teller at the branch at 848 Ala Lilikoi St. at about 9:10 a.m. March 9.

He was last seen fleeing in a four-door compact vehicle on Salt Lake Boulevard, police said.

The suspect is about 5 feet 8 to 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighs about 120 pounds. He was wearing a camouflage baseball cap, blue dress shirt, khaki pants, white shoes and a blue mask.

Man, 23, is arrested in gunpoint robbery

A 23-year-old man was arrested for allegedly robbing a woman last month in Waikiki.

Police said the man pointed a handgun at a 29-year-old woman in her apartment's parking lot on Namahana Street at about 12:40 a.m. March 27 and demanded money.

The man forced the woman to move away from her car and took her wallet, police said. He fled toward Ala Wai Boulevard.

The victim recognized the man near her home at about 6 p.m. Wednesday and flagged down a police officer who arrested the man on suspicion of first-degree robbery and kidnapping.

Alleged death threats and choking spur arrest

Police arrested a 21-year-old man who allegedly choked a 21-year-old woman Wednesday in Waipahu.

The two were arguing when the man threatened to kill the woman and slapped her in the face several times at about 1 a.m., police said.

The argument continued, and the man choked the woman, who was then able to escape, police said.

Officers arrested the man at his Kupuohi Street home on suspicion of abuse of a family member and terroristic threatening.

Found body identified as missing hiker

Kauai County officials confirmed yesterday that the body found above Uluwehi Falls on Wednesday has been identified as missing hiker Ryan Soper, 26, of Utah.

Kauai and Honolulu police officers, Kauai firefighters and state land officers joined in the search for the body in a remote area of Wailua Valley.

Visitors told searchers where the body was, and a helicopter lifted it out of the valley Wednesday night.

An autopsy has been scheduled.
