The 40th anniversary of Earth Day tomorrow will be marked by events across the state, including the University of Hawaii at Manoa's Sustainability Fest.

The festival will feature music, food, entertainment and exhibits until sunset. It starts at 10 a.m. at the Campus Center, McCarthy Mall and Krauss Lawn with more than 100 booths, an eco-fashion show, bands, a farmers market, energy-saving tips, raffles and yoga classes.

Attendees are encouraged to bring their own shopping bags, water bottles, plates and cutlery for discounts on food.

There will also be a collection drive for recyclables and an incandescent light bulb swap for free energy-efficient CFLs.

Electronic waste, such as computers, will also be accepted.

The UH festival is among several events on Oahu as part of the worldwide Earth Day effort to promote greener or eco-friendly lifestyles:

» Century 21 All Islands is providing Green Home materials, an eco-friendly walking tour and the Easter Seals' Cartridges for Kids recycling program (for electronics, ink and laser cartridges) from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Waikiki Trade Center.

» The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and Maya Soetoro-Ng, President Barack Obama's sister, will recognize an American Recovery and Reinvestment Act project that is employing local people to restore coral reefs in Maunalua Bay at 10 a.m. Volunteers can help the work crew remove invasive algae.

» Wiki Garden founder Alan Joaquin will donate an Aloha Victory Garden to a special-needs class at Dole Middle School from 7 to 9 a.m.

» And on Saturday, Hawaiian Electric Co. is holding a Grow Hawaiian Festival at Bishop Museum from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Admission is free for residents and military families. Hawaiian arts demonstrations and displays, a native plants tour and sale, a new interactive exhibit on climate change, food booths and entertainment will be featured.
