Down to Earth celebrates holiday with a big sale
Down to Earth All Vegetarian Organic & Natural market announces a special sale tomorrow — Earth Day — of 30 percent off more than 100 of its most popular items. These include items in all departments, including canned, frozen and fresh grocery items; cosmetics; and supplements.
The sale will feature the market's Preferred Brand program, an initiative that gives preferred treatment to brands that are made from natural and GMO-free ingredients and contain organic ingredients.

Castle chef Paul Onishi shares ideas for salads
Entree salads will be featured at the next Wellness Cuisine cooking class presented by Castle Medical Center and chef Paul Onishi next Wednesday.
The class will start at 6:30 p.m. at Castle's Wellness Center Auditorium. Cost is $15, $20 per couple, and $10 seniors and students.

Sturgeon is the star at Alan Wong dinner
Alan Wong's restaurant will feature Hilo farm-raised sturgeon as part of its Farmer Series dinner next Wednesday.
Kevin Hopkins of the University of Hawaii-Hilo and Day2Resources, and Akolea Aquatics' Howard Takata will also be on hand to discuss the Siberian sturgeon.
The fish will be presented with Shiitake Mushroom Puree, Bean Salad and Sumida Farms Watercress. The rest of the dinner includes four appetizers, Kuahiwi Ranch Grilled Flank Steak and a “;Study in Soy”; dessert.

31 ice cream flavors for 31 cents a scoop
“;31 Cent Scoop Night”; at Baskin-Robbins will be back next Wednesday. The ice cream shop's annual thank-you to customers reduces the price of all 2.5-ounce scoops to just 31 cents.
As part of the event, the Dunkin' Donuts & Baskin-Robbins Community Foundation will make a $100,000 donation to the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation.

Eateries back programs at East Oahu churches
Some of the island's finest chefs and restaurants will be featured at Saturday's Fourth Annual Taste of East Oahu, with proceeds benefiting Calvary by the Sea Church programs, including Angel Network.
More than 40 kinds of wine from the HASR Wine Co. and a variety of beers will be offered with food from 3660 on the Rise, Chai's Island Bistro, Duke's Waikiki, Hokulani Bake Shop, Hula Grill, JJ Bistro & French Pastry, Maile's Thai Bistro, Memoirs Hawaii, Michel's, Ruth's Chris Steak House and Pacific Soul Cuisine.
Jon Osorio and Stephen Brown, and Paul Shimomoto will entertain.
The event runs 6 to 9 p.m. at the church, located at 5339 Kalanianaole Highway, with free parking available at Holy Nativity Episcopal Church and Aina Haina Elementary School (shuttle service every 15 minutes).
