Punahou to screen film about living off the grid
Punahou School will be presenting a free screening of the documentary “;No Impact Man”; at 6 p.m. tomorrow at the campus' Thurston Memorial Chapel, followed by a panel discussion on sustainability.
The film follows one Manhattan family's crusade to live off the grid for one year, foregoing electricity, elevators and the subway while living in the middle of New York City.

HIFF brings in 'Taipei,' winner of Berlin award
A new film has been added to the Hawaii International Film Festival Spring Showcase.
“;Au Revoir Taipei,”; winner of the Best Asian Film Award at the Berlin International Film Festival earlier this year, will play at 8:45 p.m. Thursday at the Regal Dole Cannery Stadium 18. The film will also be shown at the 30th annual HIFF in October.
The debut film from rising talent Arvin Chen follows a brokenhearted young man, Kai, whose girlfriend has left for Paris. In need of money to get to Paris, Kai gets involved with a local gangster, leading to a wild night.

'Descendants' looking for extras on Kauai
Producers of “;The Descendants,”; the film starring George Clooney and based on a novel by local author Kaui Hart Hemmings, are seeking extras on Kauai.
Shooting for the film will run this month and in May at the St. Regis Resort and in and around Hanalei and Princeville. Casting director John Jackson is looking for extras of all types and ages, including individuals who work at the resort as desk clerks, valet attendants, bellmen and managers.

A pot for Mom
The Hawaii Potters Guild is holding a Mother's Day art sale from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Friday that will feature pieces from 40 selected guild instructors and members. Items for sale range from functional to art pieces.
Proceeds will go to funding the guild, a nonprofit organization founded in 1967 and committed to the support and development of ceramic arts and crafts, offering classes for students of all levels.

Meet the author
Cornelia Funke, author of the popular “;Inkheart Trilogy,”; will be signing her books at Barnes & Noble Kahala, starting at 3 p.m. April 29.
The German-born Funke was the 2009 Nene Award winner for her young adult fantasy novel “;Inkheart,”; and she will be signing copies of that book as well as her other titles, “;Inkspell,”; “;Inkdeath”; and “;The Thief Lord.”;
A percentage of all Nene Awards Committee Bookfair sales made at the Kahala store from April 29 to May 2 will be donated to the committee, if the book fair is mentioned by name during checkout.
