Five finalists to become the next chancellor of the University of Hawaii at Hilo will visit the campus this month.

The candidates are John Pezzuto, UH-Hilo College of Pharmacy founding dean; Luoluo Hong, the UH-Hilo vice chancellor for student affairs; James Riehl, dean of the Swenson College of Science and Engineering at the University of Minnesota, Duluth; Donald Straney, dean of the College of Science and professor of biology at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona; and Janie Fouke, senior adviser to the president at the University of Florida.

They will meet with various constituent groups in Hilo and Kona and with UH President M.R.C. Greenwood and will speak at a public forum at UH-Hilo during their visits.

Greenwood appointed a search committee to provide recommendations for candidates to succeed UH-Hilo Chancellor Rose Tseng. Greenwood will submit her recommendation for Tseng's replacement to the Board of Regents for approval.

Tseng, who has been UH-Hilo chancellor since 1998, is retiring this summer.
