Brashton Satele's hopes of playing another year of college football ended yesterday, thus jump-starting his pursuit of a professional career.

The Hawaii linebacker's petition for a sixth year of eligibility was denied by the NCAA yesterday, closing his injury-shortened Warriors career. Satele will not appeal the decision.

“;It kind of shocked me; I thought I'd come back, but it's all right,”; Satele said. “;Now I can focus and put my efforts into one thing.”;

Satele last played in a game in UH's loss to Notre Dame in the 2008 Sheraton Hawaii Bowl. He was slated to start at middle linebacker entering fall camp last year, but suffered a shoulder injury in practice and had season-ending surgery.

“;It's very disappointing,”; UH head coach Greg McMackin said. “;Brashton was our best leader and an outstanding player and I wish him the best.”;

UH is still awaiting word on a similar appeal by offensive lineman Laupepa Letuli.

Satele and Letuli participated in UH's pro day on April 1, and a strong performance before the NFL scouts raised interest in Satele. He will be represented by Kenny Zuckerman of Priority Sports and Entertainment.

“;I'm just looking for an opportunity, it doesn't matter where,”; said Satele, who has been medically cleared. “;I thank everybody for all their prayers and everyone who helped me.”;

With Satele's status finalized, the Warriors continue the competition at middle linebacker, where freshman George Daily-Lyles has moved into contention along with Mana Lolotai.

Warriors host Junior Day

More than 100 high school prospects are expected to attend UH's Junior Day today. The event allows current juniors and their parents to take an inside look at the program.

The day will culminate with the Warriors' practice and scrimmage starting at 1:30 p.m. at Ching Field.
