Okita to lead Aloha Section

Hal Okita was named the new executive director of the Aloha Section PGA.

Okita recently retired as the executive director of the Hawaii State Golf Association. He assumes his new position Monday.

Team Aloha earns first victory

Lia Galdeira scored nine points and Kalei Adolpho had 12 rebounds as Team Aloha defeated Triple Threat from Los Angeles 42-17 in yesterday's first round of the Arizona Elite Girls Basketball Tournament in Tempe, Ariz.

Mysha Sataraka added seven points for the high school all-star team from Hawaii.

 

BYUH and HPU in tennis final

It will be an all-Hawaii final at today's Pacific West Conference women's tennis championship in Glendale, Ariz.

Top-seeded Brigham Young-Hawaii and second-seeded Hawaii Pacific advanced by identical 5-0 scores in their respective semifinals yesterday. The third-ranked Seasiders (26-0) shut out Dixie State, while the No. 11 Sea Warriors (18-2) blanked Chaminade (10-10).

 

HPU doubles up Grand Canyon

Hawaii Pacific used seven hits and a bases-loaded walk to score five runs in the sixth and rally past Grand Canyon 9-4 in the second game of a Pacific West baseball doubleheader yesterday in Phoenix.

The Sea Warriors (27-9, 19-3 PWC) can clinch at least a share of the conference title by winning one game of today's doubleheader with the Antelopes (25-19, 15-11).

HPU won the opener 8-6. Bas Nooij drove in four runs for HPU, including a three-run homer in the fifth.

 

Silverswords take 2 from Seasiders

Kasy'e Lalau tossed a three-hitter and Brandi Sasaki hit a two-run homer in the first to help give Chaminade a 3-0 win over Brigham Young-Hawaii in the second game of yesterday's PacWest softball doubleheader at the BYUH field.

The Silverswords (5-29, 5-21 PWC) won the opener 10-5, with Sasaki's two-run single capping a four-run fifth against the Seasiders (17-31, 12-16).

 

Wahine topple Aggies in tennis

Barbara Pinterova and Alyssa Nafarrete won their 10th doubles match in 12 outings to help Hawaii defeat New Mexico State 5-2 in a Western Athletic Conference women's tennis match yesterday at the UH Tennis Complex.

Pinterova and Nafarrete beat the Aggies' Sophia Marks and Manon Sylvain 8-5 on the No. 2 court to give the Wahine the doubles point. Pinterova also won her singles match for Hawaii (9-13, 4-3 WAC).

 

Rainbow Wahine medal at meets

TeRina Keenan placed second in both the shot put and discus and Emma MacCorquodale was third in the hammer as the Hawaii track and field team split the squad to compete in two meets Thursday.

Keenan's double occurred at the Twilight Open hosted by Cal State Los Angeles. MacCorquodale's season-best throw happened at the Bryan Clay Invitational at Azusa, Calif.
