Wahine make it official with JC point guard

The Hawaii women's basketball team received a 2010-11 national letter of intent from junior college point guard Keianna Evans on the first day of the spring signing period yesterday.
Evans, a 5-7 sophomore at Kaskaskia (Ill.) College, averaged about 15 points, 7.0 rebounds, 2.5 assists and three steals per game.
Kaskaskia coach Leslie Olajimbiti thinks the Rainbow Wahine bring a fiery court leader into their mix.
“;For us, she was definitely a team leader. Led by example. She was a player that, if we needed a scorer, the ball was in her hands,”; Olajimbiti said. “;She'd take it to the rim and finish. She'd knock down the big 3s for us.
Evans, of Fayetteville, N.C., adds ball-handling depth to a Wahine backcourt that relied heavily on junior Keisha Kanekoka last year.
“;She's a laid-back, easy-going person. But as soon as she steps on the floor, that mentality changes. ... She kind of has a killer instinct,”; Olajimbiti said, “;She flew a little bit under the radar, I think. But I think she's a steal for Hawaii.”;
Olajimbiti said Evans chose Hawaii over Elon, Augusta State and several NAIA schools.
UH has three more scholarships to give for next season.
