Dixie State tops UHH in baseball

Tony Nelson's RBI single to right broke a 2-2 tie and Dixie State pulled away for a 8-3 victory over Hawaii-Hilo in yesterday's first game of a Pacific West baseball doubleheader at Wong Stadium.

The Vulcans (13-20, 9-14 PWC) had snapped a five-game losing skid against the Red Storm (26-14, 16-11) Monday with a sweep of their doubleheader by identical 4-2 scores.

Vulcans seventh at Hanny golf

Led by Ryan Felix's sixth-place finish, the Hawaii-Hilo men's golf team took seventh at the Hanny Stanislaus Invitational at the Turlock (Calif.) Country Club.

Felix finished at even-par 216, 18 strokes behind medalist Gene Webster Jr. of Cal State San Bernardino. The Vulcans (892) were 21 strokes behind co-champions CSU San Bernardino and host CSU Stanislaus in the 17-team event.

Hawaii golfers finish in 20th

The Hawaii men's golf team finished last in the 20-team U.S. Intercollegiate tournament at the Stanford (Calif.) Golf Course.

The Warriors finished at 936, 96 strokes behind winner Oregon. Sophomore T.J. Kua tied for 51st at 220, 18 strokes behind medalist Daniel Miernicki of Oregon.

Hawaii stays on the road to compete at the Western Intercollegiate Saturday and Sunday in Santa Cruz, Calif.

Kiester new Wahine assistant

John Kiester has been hired as assistant coach for the Hawaii women's soccer team.

Kiester played for Hawaii Pacific, where he captained the Sea Warriors for three seasons, and also played for the defunct Hawaii Tsunami pro soccer team. He was the head coach of Missouri S&T for three seasons and is a former assistant at Oregon and Baylor.
